While a Serato box and shiny Mac are the foundation of making music, Vinny brings this rare ingredient to the turntables: Rhythm.

After hearing Vinny’s two latest mixes, “EarKandi” and “Electro Thesis,” I’m not surprised that he was just signed by CEG Talent in New York City. His list of past performances is enough evidence that he’s doing something right: STK NYC, Marquee, Cain Luxe, Touch NYC, Pacha NYC, Hudson Terrace, Suzie Wongs, Johnny Utahs, The Canal Room, BLVD, The Imperial… the list goes on. And so does the beat.

In his Electro Thesis Mix (mostly house and electro) he takes us on a musical journey that flows from the start to it’s final destination an hour later. The intro to his newest mix, EarKandi, is amazing, dramatic, and conviced me from the start that Vinny knows how to work a crowd. It starts with La Roux’s I’m Not Your Toy and the high energy vibes continue with appearances from Ke$ha and Lady Gaga, with LMFAO and Wale following soon after. Tommy Spark’s She’s Got Me Dancing is fire in this mix, and the end even has Beethoven in it.

Together, these two mixes showcase Vinny Good’s open format approach to the art of deejaying, and you’re sure to be impressed by his ability to cross so many genres with such natural flow and ease.

Hours of Must-Have Deejay Mixes

I’m definitely in a deejay mix mood these days, and these are what I’ve been listening to. Dj NVM’s Sundance Sephora mix is a laid back, Kevin-Scott-at-the-Mondrian-Pool –ish mix that I could lay around listening to for hours. It’s much more relaxed than many of the other house/electro tunes I’ve been posting lately.

Dj Homicide’s South Beach Diet mix is an upbeat and energetic mix. My favorite part is from 21:00 on, sounds like you’re listening to a live performance in Cuba.

Rock It! Scientists are a more refined, less ADHD version of GirlTalk. I think this mix is from 2008, but the quality of their mash-ups is why I still like them in 2010. They’re a team of two deejays who mix everything live with four turntables.

I’m hoping everyone’s heard Coachella by now, if not, you’ve really missed out. AM left us with an amazing collection of live recordings when he passed last Fall. [Above: Pic I took at Paradiso Club in Amsterdam for my 21st birthday last weekend. Look how much fun that guy is having. I was going to post up music from there but it was mostly generic rave music, I think even Tiesto would have been a little overwhelmed. Incredible city though.]

Kalemba is like the Tik-Tok of Spain; every lounge or club we go to, it’s playing. And I’m not the least bit tired of it. It's a bit of reggaeton mixed with some electro/dance.

I never thought I’d post up a poppy mix from the Black Eyed Peas, but the synths in this remix are addictive. Dj Rokuro’s Club Mix isn’t over the top, and it closely resembles the original BEP track. Very tastefully done.

I’m a huge Tocadisco fan. Move Your Feet has been around for a while, but I think Tocadisco’s intro is great. Sound clip fits perfectly, first minute is a lot like Spinbad’s 80’s and 90’s megamixes.

Check out their other remix of Guetta’s “Tomorrow Can Wait.” Disclaimer: it’s pretty intense for easy listening, it’s more something that you’ll hear at 6 or 7 am at a discoteca.

The Two Sides of Dj Chachi

We all saw Chachi’s tweets in late November about the new mix he was working on. Many people begged him to send them copies as soon as he finished it. And then we found out it wasn’t being released until Feb 1^st. That’s like Santa rescheduling Christmas. But on Monday, our patience will finally pay off with the new release that shows the culmination of Chachi’s lifelong passion for music into two hour-long mixes.

Chachi has gone from a Long Island deejay to a NYC sensation to an international phenomenon, with his work being recognized by many famous artists. When Fergie found out that Chachi was spinning at tenjune, she made it a point to get there and personally let him know how much she enjoys his music and mash-ups.

Not surprisingly, the past year has brought Chachi tremendous good fortune, with TV appearances on FOX 5 NYC and an explosive list of current residencies. Last year, he was the go-to guy for many respected businesses in their musical marketing campaigns. Goldspun jeans enlisted Chachi’s help last fall, Shrine at the MGM Grand for their 1 year anniversary, and now Eugene Remm of EMM Group (the brains behind tenjune, STK, and Simyone Lounge) has chosen Chachi exclusively to make their annual mix.

Chachi is definitely the cool kid at the middle school lunch table, and his popularity will continue to snowball as more people get a chance to hear the Split Personalities Collection. Stay tuned for the Split Personalities release Monday Feb 1.

Artist Spotlight: Major Lazer

If Lady Gaga, Journey, Santogold, M.I.A., Lily Allen, and one of Bob Marley’s sons started a band, and then Ke$ha peer-pressured them into downing a handle of vodka before hitting the recording studio, it would probably sound something like this…and I like it. Major Lazer condenses like six genres into one, and you might recognize them from Jason Smith’s For The Love of Music Pt. 1 Mix. Their style is fresh, their sounds are crisp, and you’re sure to enjoy these three tracks. Special thanks to Julie Mackler for insisting I listen to these on her iPod at lunch today :)

Chachi Leaks 2 Tracks From New CD

Chachi just released his new remix “Forever Boots,” (click for download via Chachi's blog). It’s part of his 2 Disc CD “Split Personalities,” which compares his style of music with the music he plays in clubs. It crosses every genre and is addictive. I had a chance to hear both CD’s, and I’ll be posting up the link when he releases it Feb 1st... Stay tuned for future leaks from his whole CD.
