The Two Sides of Dj Chachi

DOWLOAD HERE!!

We all saw Chachi’s tweets in late November about the new mix he was working on. Many people begged him to send them copies as soon as he finished it. And then we found out it wasn’t being released until Feb 1
st. That’s like Santa rescheduling Christmas. But on Monday, our patience will finally pay off with the new release that shows the culmination of Chachi’s lifelong passion for music into two hour-long mixes.

Chachi has gone from a Long Island deejay to a NYC sensation to an international phenomenon, with his work being recognized by many famous artists. When Fergie found out that Chachi was spinning at tenjune, she made it a point to get there and personally let him know how much she enjoys his music and mash-ups.

Not surprisingly, the past year has brought Chachi tremendous good fortune, with TV appearances on FOX 5 NYC and an explosive list of current residencies. Last year, he was the go-to guy for many respected businesses in their musical marketing campaigns. Goldspun jeans enlisted Chachi’s help last fall, Shrine at the MGM Grand for their 1 year anniversary, and now Eugene Remm of EMM Group (the brains behind tenjune, STK, and Simyone Lounge) has chosen Chachi exclusively to make their annual mix.

Chachi is definitely the cool kid at the middle school lunch table, and his popularity will continue to snowball as more people get a chance to hear the Split Personalities Collection. Stay tuned for the Split Personalities release Monday Feb 1.

So, until I can post the download link, here are my favorite old school Chachi mashups circa 2005.

Justin Timerlake, Beach Boys, Mamas and the Papas (Chachi Blend)
Kanye West - Chachi’s Workout Plan
Frank Sinatra/Ja Rule - New York, NY (from Dj Chachi Mixx 2005)
Footloose Boys of Summer / Ocean Ave

Artist Spotlight: Major Lazer

If Lady Gaga, Journey, Santogold, M.I.A., Lily Allen, and one of Bob Marley’s sons started a band, and then Ke$ha peer-pressured them into downing a handle of vodka before hitting the recording studio, it would probably sound something like this…and I like it. Major Lazer condenses like six genres into one, and you might recognize them from Jason Smith’s For The Love of Music Pt. 1 Mix. Their style is fresh, their sounds are crisp, and you’re sure to enjoy these three tracks. Special thanks to Julie Mackler for insisting I listen to these on her iPod at lunch today :)

Major Lazer – Hold the Line (Ft. Santogold / LehtMoJoe Remix)

Major Lazer – Pon De Floor (Ft. VYBZ Kartel)

Major Lazer – Can’t Stop Now (Ft. Mr. Vegas and Jovi Rockwell)

Chachi Leaks 2 Tracks From New CD

Chachi just released his new remix “Forever Boots,”
(click for download via Chachi's blog). It’s part of his 2 Disc CD “Split Personalities,” which compares his style of music with the music he plays in clubs. It crosses every genre and is addictive. I had a chance to hear both CD’s, and I’ll be posting up the link when he releases it Feb 1st... Stay tuned for future leaks from his whole CD.

Jake Wisse

If Deadmau5 ever calls in sick to a show, this mix will do just fine. After months of dealing with an antiquated IBM ThinkPad hooked up to the living room TV since the screen was broken, along with frying a hard drive full of music, Ableton projects, and countless creative items, Jake is finally back on his game creating rave party-esque mixes after a chance encounter with a shiny new MacBook Pro at the Apple Store.

Jake’s new mix, simply called “mixnouveau” is the product of his unique, lifelong musical interest. With tracks ranging from Moulinex to yuksek to the Japanese Popstars, this mix is pretty intense for the average music lover, but anybody with ears can appreciate the energy of the beat, the smoothness of the transitions and the originality of the song choices. We’re all eagerly looking forward to what the future holds for Jake’s musical career.

My favorite part of the mix is at 19:00 with the Party Sausage Remix of Eliza Doolittle's "Rollerblades." The energy is CRAZY.

Also, follow Jake on his blog.

Classy Alicante

It’s midnight at Concerto in Alicante, Spain. It’s still considered “the evening.” The clubs don’t open until 3:30am, at the earliest. You’re mingling with the classiest people in town, and a famous deejay is hibernating from seasonal club residencies in Ibiza and playing hours of low frequency electro tunes. Meet Tyron Dixon and Dj Julez.

This 45 min mix by my local friend Julio (Dj Julez) puts you in the mood (Scroll to 26:50 for a nice change of pace). Tyron gave me his new mix CD but I didn’t want to lose it, so I asked the manager at Concerto to put it in a safe place. I’ll have it up as soon as I can go back to retrieve it… In the meantime, have some sangria and enjoy the south of Spain without losing your baggage or flying halfway across the world.

Hot Music from the South of Spain

Spanish people are bumping these songs everywhere from the panaderia to the autobus to their Smart cars. Spain has completely reinvigorated my love of house/electro music. So, of course, this week’s blog update has a heavy Spanish discoteca influence. Put these on your iPod for the gym, the energy is nuts. Many songs you’ll recognize from America, but the remixes, high and low frequency faders, and the electro/house beat transformed these into club bangers.

Dj Chuckie ft Jermaine Dupri – Let the Bass Kick

Lady Gaga – LoveGame (David Aude Remix)

Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow (David Guetta Remix / Diggz Remaster)

Daft Punk – Around the World (Kid Dub Remix)

Diplo & Buraka Som Sistema – Inna De Ghetto (Remix)

Chill Hi Fly – Is it Love (Club Mix)

David Guetta ft. Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over (Jason Bee Edit)

I'm in Alicante Bitchhh

(Above: The view from my new apartment in Spain.)

I can't wait to share all the good music I've discovered while living in Spain. I’ve been in Spain for 2 weeks now and it’s been impossible to find internet access. I finally managed to find a stray wifi signal on my porch… there’s so much to update about. I’m going to be studying here in Alicante for the next 4 months. Next weekend we’re hitting up Amsterdam for my 21st birthday.. I’ve heard great things about Amsterdam so I’m anxious to bring back some good music.

Europe’s nightlife scene is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. The music is crazy, the people are crazier, and I’ll be posting up some songs and remixes from the local deejays. Clubs don’t open until 4am, and things don’t quiet down until like 8am.

Tyron Dixon was spinning last night at Concerto, my favorite lounge in Alicante. He’s been around the world at notorious places like Pacha in Ibiza, Spain and many other famous discotecas. His style reminds of DJ AM, but Tyron has his own unique style. Check out his website (www.tyrondixon.net) to read about him. He gave me his new mix so I’ll be posting that up as soon as I can find a reliable internet connection.
